Supreme Court of India Bans Construction of religious structures and statues on Public Land

The Supreme Court of India on January 15, 2013 together an order that religious structures like temples and shrines on public land is prohibited. The formation of Justice RM Lodha and SJ Mukhopadhaya, in its order stated that henceforth must provide for the installation of a statue no Member State consent or construction of structures on public utility places, sidewalks, public streets and sideways.

The apex court a communication with the Government of India and the governments to ensure that the order was strictly implemented. The SC called on all structures such as unauthorized and ordered the governments of the Member States to learn more about these structures and file the status report in eight weeks.

The order of the Supreme Court was the Solicitor General Gopal Janssens informed that the Central Government and the Governments of the Member States have worked together on the agreement on 17 September 2012 not to allow that religious structures on public land.

The order by the Supreme Court will give to the authorities and municipal bodies against unauthorized constructions.

Apart from the religious structures, the Apex Court's order also applies to the installation of statues.
