Change default path for installing programs

Maximum people are using different drive to install software when their default derive (i.e C:\) where free space size is too small.
Windows XP or Windows 7 uses C:\ Program Files directory as the default base directory into which new programs are installed. When you are installing any kind of software then you can change installation directory by customizing it. But in this process, you have to change the directory every time when you are installing a new software. However, you can change this default installation directory / derive by registry hack.
  • First go to Run and type regedit press enter.
  • Goto    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion (double click on Current Version folder).
  • Double click on Program FilesDir. By default, this value will be C:\Program Files. Edit the value to any valid drive or folder and Windows XP or Windows   will use that new location as the default installation directory for new programs.
